04/24/2011 Happy Easter 2011

The Easter Bunny came to the Briggs house!

I did something creative this year for Alexa since she is really into pirates right now (she loves the new show on the Disney channel called Jake and the Neverland Pirates). When she woke up from her nap, Matthew and I told her that while she was sleeping, the Easter Bunny came back to our house with a special treasure map for her. The map contained clues that would help her find her Easter eggs. The Easter Bunny also left her an eye patch! She loved it! She was so excited and she even told me that when she was waking up in her bed, she thought that she heard the Easter Bunny talking downstairs and she was right!

She unrolled her map and studied it for a bit. The she immediately went to find the first clue: our wagon.

She found the first egg! She was happy that there were M&M's inside of it.

Looking out the front door for clue #5: our mailbox.

She found all the eggs. The last clue was for the grand pirate treasure chest. She found it right away under the slide of her clubhouse in the backyard. She couldn't wait to bring it in the house and open it up.

Some gold coins! She's calling them her Gold Doubloons (from the cartoon show).

Then she had even more fun painting and decorating her treasure chest.

When it dries, we'll put it on her dresser and she can use it as a jewelry box for all of her earrings.

I couldn't resist dressing him up as a spring chick today!

Alexa hid some eggs for Gavin. He also loved wearing the pirate eye patch. I was surprised that they both liked the patches. I didn't think that they would leave them on for long but they actually wore them for about an hour. (I hope that's not bad for their vision?)

Gavin's devouring his M&M's.

My little pirates

Gavin loved the special sports ball Easter eggs.

They soon got tired of finding eggs and just wanted me to dump the eggs over them. They thought that was so funny.

Later on Sunday night, I filled up Alexa's water gun and we crept around the corner to the office while Daddy was working on the computer. We surprised him by squirting him in the neck. Next thing I know, he had filled up Gavin's water gun and there was a major water fight going on in our house. Even Gabbi was getting soaked! Alexa and Gavin got the wettest, probably because I was using Alexa as my shield and Matt was doing the same with Gavin to block the incoming water. They loved it and we all had a blast!

Baby Tysen's first Easter

Gavin and Alexa helped dye eggs.

Happy Easter to all of our friends and family!

As I put the Baby's First Easter outfit on Tysen, I couldn't help but reminisce about when Alexa and Gavin fit into it. Later when I had time, I searched for the photos and thought it was cute to compare all three babies on their first Easters.

4/21/2011 Potty Progress

Gavin's doing great with potty-training. He's been using the toilet at daycare 3-6 times daily and doing awesome at home. He's so proud of himself when he goes in the toilet and he loves to flush and wave "bye-bye" to the potty! We've been putting big-boy underwear on him in the evenings. He gets so excited about his Buzz and Woody underwear. Last night he even wanted to sleep holding a clean pair.

He has had a couple of accidents in his underwear and the experience really shocked him. He seemed very confused as to why he and the floor got wet. He was very sad when I took the underwear off and put his diaper back on. I think it's a good learning experience for him. Now the next biggest step is to get him talking so he can tell us when he needs to go potty!

Gavin's daycare teacher told us about this toilet technique for little boys. Once we started putting him on the toilet facing backwards, he started aiming better because he naturally leans forwards instead of backwards. There's much less mess now and he is more comfortable, too.

04/20/2011 Tysen Update

During our short stay at Ohio State University Medical Center following Tysen's birth, he failed a routine hearing screening done on all newborns. It is fairly common for newborns to fail the screening (especially for vaginal deliveries) due to fluid and gunk that gets packed in their little ear canals. The audiologist recommended that we have his hearing rechecked in a few months. In March, I took Tysen to Nationwide Children's Hospital for a hearing test. Because Tysen wouldn't cooperate for long (infants must be asleep for the test), we weren't able to complete the test. I took Tysen back on Tuesday to try again. Unfortunately, we didn't get the results that we'd been praying for. For unknown reasons, Tysen has mild hearing loss in his left ear. We now have an appointment with an ENT (ear, nose, throat specialist) on Friday to hopefully find a reason for the hearing loss. The best case scenario would be that he just has fluid behind the ear drum. If that is the case, he would probably require a minor surgery to place drainage tubes. That's not so scary to us because we've experienced that with Gavin when he was 13 months old. Another possible reason for the hearing loss could be nerve damage. If that is the case, we will discuss having Tysen fitted for hearing aides. Whatever the cause of his hearing loss, I just want to take action quickly. I really regret waiting so long with Gavin when he was having all those ear infections. I really feel that Gavin's speech delay is directly related to all of his ear issues.
Tysen had his 4 month wellness check-up this afternoon. I took the picture of him above once we got home. He was exhausted from the 4 shots he got. Here are his 4 month stats:
Weight: 15 lbs 2 oz (75%)
Height: 26 in (90%)

04/17/2011

Our friends brought over a tricycle for the kids to ride. They've been having a blast with it. Gavin's the perfect size for it. Alexa's a little big, but she thinks it's fun anyways.

Alexa said the funniest thing yesterday. She said that she wanted me to make a "French Poodle Pizza" and that Uncle Brian could eat the head, Daddy could eat the eyes, and Mommy could eat the butt! Oh, and the policeman could eat the feet! Where does she come up with these stories?

I left Tysen laying on his back in the middle of this blanket. I went into the kitchen to get Alexa something to drink. Soon I heard Tysen crying. This is where I found him! He's never rolled over this many times consecutively! He must have rolled over at least 4 times in under a minute to get to where I found him. He was trying to go farther, but the wall got in his way! He was so mad that he got stuck! Plus, he kept bonking his own head on the wall because he was trying so hard!
Here's Tysen yelling because he's stuck!
