Matthew's Award

A few months ago, Matthew was notified that he would be receiving an award from Creighton. At the time, he didn't think that he would be able to attend the ceremony because of his full schedule and it being held on a Tuesday afternoon. That's when I decided to plan the kids' and my trip back to Iowa/Nebraska to visit family for Easter, Bowen's birthday, and I also had planned to accept the award on Matthew's behalf. Luckily, it worked out that Matthew was able to fly into Omaha that day. He was only able to stay about 15 hours before he flew back to Columbus but at least he was able to receive his award and see some of the family. We are all so very proud of him! The rest is copied from Creighton's School of Pharmacy and Health Professions newsletter:
Since 1996, the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions has presented Young Alumni Appreciation Awards to individuals who graduated from Creighton within the last 10 years. The awards acknowledge the way these young professionals exemplify the Creighton credo in their practice.
Matthew Briggs, DPT’05, of Westerville, Ohio, was the 2013 recipient of the Young Alumni Appreciation Award for Physical Therapy. He was joined by his wife, Gena (McGrew) Briggs, PharmD’06, for the ceremony.

Following graduation, Briggs became the first resident in the sports physical therapy program at Ohio State University. His excellence in patient care and academics lead to his appointment as a clinical assistant professor in the physical therapy program at Ohio State. Matt is also pursuing a doctoral degree in health and rehabilitation sciences and expects to graduate in 2014. In 2011, Matt received the New Horizon Award from the APTA Sports Physical Therapy Section.

Matt serves his community in a number of ways, including as the associate medical director for the Pelotonia Bike Tour, an event which attracts more than 6000 cyclists annually to raise money for cancer research.

The lake was so pretty.
We were able to watch some really amazing and unusual (for Nebraska) pelicans.
There's a short video at the bottom of the pelicans.
My mom had the idea to make each child an owl-shaped cake and let them decorate it with fruit.  I helped Bowen a little bit, but the older kids had a lot of fun picking out the eyes, beak, and wings,
Happy Birthday, Baby Bowen!
(He ate the blueberry eyes first!)
Alexa was proud of her owl.

Cousin Dezirae, Uncle Eric, and Granddad and Grandma Briggs were able to come out to celebrate Bowen's birthday with us.

Another Easter Egg Hunt

Tianna and I hid eggs in our dad's backyard for the kids to find.  We assigned each kid their own color and explained the rule to them that they could only pick up an egg if it was their color.  That allowed us to hide Alexa and Masen's eggs much harder than the littler kids.  We had a lot of fun hiding them and then watching them run around looking.  We almost lost one of Masen's eggs, but in the end all the eggs were accounted for.

Alexa had pink.
Gavin had yellow.
Hudson had orange.
