3/17/2010 Happy St. Patrick's Day!

The kids are all ready to go to school and wearing their green.

Gavin is learning how to go down the stairs.

Alexa was upset this morning because she wanted to wear orange, not green.

We went to the park this evening after supper.

He is the happiest little boy ever.

Gavin's first time down a big slide solo. My kids have no fear, they just go for it!

This weekend I had quite a surprise when I opened our dryer and found melted crayons on everything. I'm not exaggerating either, I checked every article of clothing. Apparently Alexa had stuffed a bunch of crayons in the pocket of her winter coat and I did not realize it until it was too late! First, I called my grandma to see if she knew of a remedy and then I checked online for some helpful hints. I really thought everything was ruined. After talking to my mom, I went to Target to buy all the ingredients. It took over an hour to scrape all the melted mess out of the dryer. Then I put all the clothes back in the washer along with the recipe for getting out melted crayons. I couldn't believe it, but everything came out spotless. Here's the recipe below. You never know, you may just need this someday!
2 cups Tide
1 cup Clorox2 Color-safe bleach
1 cup OxiClean
1/2 cup 20 Mule Team Borax
1 cup Shout
1 cup Vinegar
Wash on hottest setting with stain treat soak
It works!

I just painted Alexa's fingernails. She asked for orange, like Nemo. Now she's calling them her Nemo nails.

Gavin is sound asleep.

We were busy baking cupcakes tonight. We made over 50 cupcakes so that Daddy could take them to school tomorrow to give to his students after finals. Alexa kept asking, "Who's happy birthday?"

She says, "This one's yellow, like Bubbles!" (another fish character on Finding Nemo)

We are loving the sunshine! We went on a walk this evening and stopped at the playground so the kids could run around a little bit. Gavin is loving the grass! I don't think he remembers it from last summer because he was too young. As you can see by his pants, the ground was really wet.

It's hard to tell by looking at the picture, but Alexa and Gavin are standing on the bank of a hill. Gavin kept falling down and at one point, he started rolling down the hill! It was too cute.

Alexa thought he was hurt so she's giving him hugs and kisses. He was only crying because he was frustrated that he couldn't walk very well on the incline.

Whenever I ask Alexa to smile now, she does something weird with her jaw or she'll squeeze her eyes shut and say, "Cheese!"

Nemo goes everywhere with us. You can't tell in the pictures because the kids have their jackets on, but Alexa picked out their shirts today. They are both wearing orange (like Nemo, Alexa says). I've been trying to find Alexa a Nemo shirt or pajamas and I am not having any luck. Does anyone know where I can buy Nemo clothing? It would make Alexa so happy.

I'm so excited and proud to report that Gavin used the potty for the first time tonight! I've been thinking about starting potty training soon (we started Alexa when she was 15 months old) and tonight when I was getting him ready for bed, I noticed that his diaper was still dry. I knew that it hadn't been changed for about 3 hours. I decided to put him on Alexa's potty seat and see what he would do. I sat him on the toilet and said, "Go potty, Gavin." And he did! I made a big deal out of it and praised him over and over. He looked so proud of himself. He even clapped for himself! I know, I'm sure that I just got lucky, but I'm going to start putting him on the potty every night. The sooner we get started, the sooner we can stop buying diapers!

Although it is still chilly, we are enjoying the sunshine! We decided to go on a family bike ride today.

Gavin is relaxing in his rocking chair and watching Daddy get all of our bikes and the buggy loaded in the truck.

Alexa has grown taller since October when we bought her this bike for her second birthday. She practiced riding it in the parking lot while Daddy unloaded all of our gear. This helmet that she is wearing is the smallest of the child-sized helmets that we own. I had intended for Gavin to wear it, but Alexa threw a tantrum because she wanted to wear the Elmo helmet.

Gavin does not like wearing the helmet anymore.

Nemo goes everywhere with us.

Our ride started off nice....

But once we got to a shaded area of the bike path we got stuck! We had to turn around.

While Daddy was packing our stuff up again, I took the kids to the playground for a little bit. By this time, the sun was setting and it was getting colder.

The kids loved the swings.

Gavin was laughing so loud.

Alexa is showing me the pretty flower on the bottom of her new shoes.

She loves her baby brother!

We are all so excited that the weekend is finally here!

This is one very happy little girl!

Since the kids were in such a good mood this morning, I thought we would go grocery shopping. Alexa is now calling this her "Nemo coat" because it is orange. The sun was shining when we left the house and then kids sat in their rocking chairs for a moment.

We enjoyed a quick breakfast at the store. We went to the bakery and picked out some fresh donuts and then went to get some chocolate milk. Everyone kept telling me how cute they were!

While Gavin was taking his nap, I told Alexa that she could help me bake some cupcakes. She immediately went to the drawer where I keep our aprons and pulled hers out. She loves wearing it!

Red Velvet cake is Daddy's favorite. It'll be a little surprise for him when he gets home this afternoon. He's been at a meeting all day.

I think Alexa's favorite part about baking is cracking the eggs. I showed her the cake box and asked her how many eggs we needed. She looked at the ingredient pictures and counted the eggs. She said, "One, two, three eggs, Mama!" She was right!

Right after I took this picture, she dropped the egg in her left hand and it splattered across the floor. She was a little sad but maybe this will teach her to be very careful when handling the eggs.

Watching all the ingredients get mixed together.

This is another one of her favorite parts!

While the cupcakes were in the oven baking, I decided that we could also make up some Jello Jigglers. We got this Easter Jello mold for free at the grocery store with the purchase of some Jello. Out of all the different choices of flavors, she picked the orange box (like Nemo, she said).

She helped me stir. Now the Jigglers are in the refrigerator for a few hours. We'll let you know how they turned out later!
