I ran the Nationwide Better Health Columbus Half Marathon this morning. The thermometer in our car said that it was 32 degrees when we pulled into the parking lot. Other than it being so cold, it turned out to be a wonderful experience. I have never ran a half marathon so I wasn't sure what to expect. My goal was to finish in under 3 hours, and my official finish time was 2 hours, 32 minutes. I was very happy with that. I was relieved to run the entire 13.1 miles without any pain. In fact, I felt pretty good! My shoes felt great; I had no painful blisters or sore toes. My running clothes were perfect! My pants and shirt were an early birthday present from my husband. During the race, I saw several tee-shirts that made me laugh out loud. The first one said, "16 weeks ago, this seemed like a good idea!" Another one said, "Dear God, I pray that there is someone behind me to read this." And my favorite, "Life is short, Running makes it seem longer." I couldn't agree more!
The Start
Matthew and the kids came to support and cheer me on. We dressed them in 3 warm layers, plus hats, mittens, and blankets.
Unfortunately, Matthew wasn't able to get a photo of me crossing the finish line because he was dealing with two fussy babies! Hopefully one of the professional photographers got a good one. Once they are available, I will post a copy so check back later!
