05/30/2011

I am late in posting these pictures, but I wanted to share some of the ones that I took last Monday on Memorial Day. We had a great day. It started with a trip to the zoo. I took Alexa and Gavin, but Matthew stayed home with Tysen because he was working on a presentation. We got to the zoo just as it was opening because I knew it would be busy on a holiday, especially on such a hot day. Temperatures were already over 90 degrees when we arrived.

I asked the kids which animal they wanted to go visit first. Alexa yelled, "Polar Bears!"

We watched the polar bears above ground for awhile before we went underground to the underwater viewing area.

Here is the view from underwater. It was really neat to see how big their paws are!

Gavin was really watching them.

After the polar bears, the kids wanted to go ride the carousel. We stopped to see the flamingos on the way.

The carousel is always their favorite part!

Then we stopped to play for a bit.

We were all really hot so when Alexa asked to go in the reptile building, I agreed. Although I am sure my blood pressure got much higher (I have a HUGE fear of snakes), the air conditioning was a nice break.

Of course my kids wanted to touch the snake on display. This was as close as I could get! I try my hardest not to show them my fear of snakes because I know that would rub off on them.

We came home for lunch and to see Tysen. Alexa and Gavin were worn out so they took a nap before our friends came over for a cook out.

We had a fabulous dinner. Then we got ready and walked to our pool. The kids were so excited. The water was chilly, but it was such a hot day that it felt really refreshing.

After the pool, Kara and I bathed all the kids and we relaxed for a bit while we waited for it to get dark outside. We had some popcorn and watched Ice Age.

Once it was dark, Matthew started a small fire in our fire pit and we toasted marshmallows for s'mores!

Gavin just wanted to eat his marshmallow straight from the bag!
These are the biggest marshmallows that I have ever seen!

Alexa is so proud of her s'more.

We all had a great day shared with even better friends. I could really get used to these 3-day weekends!
